Solar power literally
turns back your electric meter!
A revolution is underway in home
energy sources. Home builders and owners
who install "grid-connected"
solar electric systems now pay less, and
benefit more.
How? A new rule in Florida allows
utility customers to connect solar systems
to the electric power grid. On
days when
a solar system generates more power than
customers use, it feeds excess power back
into local utility lines for others to
buy. This new system, called net-metering,
makes the customer's electric meter run
backward, resulting in substantial savings
on their monthly utility bill.
Solar has always been good for the planet.
Now you know it's also good for your wallet.
With home owners looking to reduce energy
use and increase equity value on their
homes, solar energy is the responsible
and easily affordable choice.
And once installed, you own your own utility
provider!

Sun-up for solar in Marion County
Let the sun shine and let the
energy meter run backward.
Yep. Backward.
This year's Parade of Homes marks
the one-year anniversary of the
unveiling of Marion County's first
new home featuring parallel utilities
-- electric utilities alongside
a solar-powered generating system
and solar hot water heater. The
Shell Solar system connects to the
utility grid, allowing homeowners
to sell any extra electricity back
to their local utility.
Located in Ocala's Oak Leaf subdivision,
the cutting-edge house was build
by local homebuilder David Sullivan,
Jr., president of Podia Construx.
The Solar system was installed by
ECS Solar Energy Systems of North
Florida, Inc., which now offers
grid-connected Shell Solar systems
to home builders and owners throughout
North Central Florida and the Southeast.
