Our Mission

Energy Clean Source is an independent editorial resource covering solar energy systems, home solar installation, and the financial and environmental case for residential solar. We publish practical guides, installation walkthroughs, incentive breakdowns, and honest assessments of the costs and timelines involved in going solar — without the sales pressure that often accompanies conversations with solar contractors.

Solar is a significant home investment, and the information landscape is crowded with marketing. Our goal is to give homeowners the grounded, research-backed information they need to evaluate whether solar is right for their home, what kind of system makes sense, and how to navigate the contractor and permitting process without being taken advantage of.

What We Cover

  • Solar Installation — Site assessment, system sizing, panel placement, inverter selection, permitting requirements, and what to expect from the installation process
  • Solar Panels — Panel technology comparisons, efficiency ratings, manufacturer reviews, and buying guides for residential systems
  • Solar Water Heaters — System types (active, passive), installation requirements, household sizing, maintenance, and cost comparison with conventional water heaters
  • Solar Incentives & Tax Credits — Federal investment tax credit (ITC), state incentives, utility rebate programs, net metering policies, and SREC markets
  • Home Energy — Energy audits, insulation, HVAC efficiency, solar ROI calculations, and integrating solar with home energy management systems

Editorial Approach

Our contributors are homeowners and energy professionals who have direct experience with residential solar. We cite NREL data, state utility commission filings, and manufacturer specifications rather than relying on contractor estimates or promotional materials.

We are not affiliated with any solar panel manufacturer, installation company, or financing provider. We do not earn commissions on solar contractor referrals.
